Burns are common in Haiti… especially “charcoal burns.” Many children fall into a charcoal fire, or into pots of hot boiling water, while under a “mud-and-stick tent.” But there are many other ways that Haitians will get a bad burn…
This is 19-year-old Noelda Jeune. She lives with her mother in a large “mud-and-stick hut” in Old Letant. Yesterday, when we were visiting there, she came “hobbling up” to us… her leg was badly burned from the knee down to the ankle, and the Haitians had put “something” on the burn… (probably charcoal).
She would have gotten a very bad infection and possibly died, but we just happened to be there! We were so thankful that a donated shipment of MAP International medicines arrived. We took her to our clinic for “debriding of the burned leg covered with charcoal!” She was in a lot of pain, but the wonderful doctors and nurses took good care of her.
We returned her to her village with wonderful medicines… burn medicine, antibiotics, pain medicine, and bandages, which she would have never been able to afford… God is good!
We cannot say “thank you” in enough ways to express our deepest appreciation. When we took Noelda back, she said, “Be sure to thank the people who sent the medicines!!” So, thank you MAP International!
God bless you,
Sherry
