Stanley… He’s a “Giant Teddy Bear!”

Stanley… He’s a “Giant Teddy Bear!”

Years ago, when Stanley (Kinam) was about nine years old, he was in an orphanage in the area of North Haiti. His aunt contacted us, begging us to come get him and bring him to our Love A Child Orphanage. She was in tears as she pleaded with me. She told me that the orphanage he was in was not fit for any child. It was dirty, the kids were not being treated well, and they were hungry. We sent someone to the orphanage to “check things out” and to bring Stanley to us if there was a problem.

The driver came back from the long trip with a tall, skinny, and shy young boy. His name was “Stanley.” In that particular area of Haiti, the Creole language was a little different from ours. We would say, “Koman ou rele?” Meaning… “What is your name, or how are you called?” In North Haiti, they said, “Ki nam ou rele?”

Well, when our children tried to talk to Stanley, they just gave him the nickname of “Kinam!” Today, Stanley is a sweet, quiet, hard-working young man, and is still with us, helping with any and all things electrical! We all love “that big teddy bear” called Kinam. (Or…Stanley! HA!)
