Jovanie was just about five years old when we took her in. Little was known about her mother. She had red hair from malnutrition, but today, she still has “red hair!” Ha! This time, it was not caused by malnutrition. She dyed her hair red, as many girls in the states are “changing their hair color.”
Jovanie was one of the kids we raised! She was very intelligent, but always had full confidence and “a strong will!” Maybe that’s what helped her to pass her RN license and her saj fam license (a saj fam in Haiti is a trained professional who delivers babies and saves the lives of the mother and baby!)
Jovanie is so strong-willed… while this might be bad in some areas, she had the strong will to save the lives of mothers and babies, in the most difficult of situations! Jovanie has gone to the Dominican Republic to see if she can get a job there. We are hoping and praying that if things get bad in Haiti, the older children will be able to find a job in a safer country! Raising 85 children to adulthood, and helping them find their path in life is challenging! We need your prayers more than ever.
