Tents, Hope, and a Sewing Machine!

“When Your Head is Cut Off, You Can’t Wear A Hat!”Haitian Creole Proverb

Mr. Luckner was a poor man who had a family to raise. He lived in the area of Nippes, Haiti. Mr. Luckner decided that in order to feed his family and send his children to school, he would buy a sewing machine and learn how to make school uniforms. He began in 1976. With that sewing machine, he paid for school for his children and even university for all his children. Everything was going fine, until last year, when the earthquake struck the Nippes area…

It completely tore up roads, bridges, schools, houses… and yes, his house and his beloved sewing machine were gone forever. As Mr. Luckner sifted through what was left of his house, he found his beloved sewing machine, and his house, in pieces! He went into a terrible state of depression because he had no money to buy another machine… and nowhere to live.

Then, Love A Child came along with tents and food… and hope! When one of our partners, age 91 plus, heard about this poor man, she sent in a beautiful sewing machine that could operate manually or with electricity!

And one of our LAC team members gave him a new tent to sleep in, with his family!

“He was off and running!!! Yes, “when your head is cut off, you can’t wear a hat.” But, with hope, he got “a head!” We want to thank our sweet little partner, Mae, for watching our program and sending in this wonderful machine that he can “crank,” or use with electricity (when they get it). But for now, Mr. Luckner is happy to be back at work and who knows… God may even bless him with a house!
