I call him the “banker.” Jean Gardy is an intelligent young man. He passed his Philo test, which is similar to the 12th grade, and wants to go to university to study accounting. That sounds good to me! Jean Gardy has been taking care of all of the older kids’ transport and food money for schools. He comes to our office and picks up their school money and divides it out to them. I have tried to change the system and let each teenager come and get their own money for food and transportation, but all of the kids say, “I’d rather have Jean Gardy pick it up for me!” Honestly, I don’t know how he keeps track of all this in his head!! Meanwhile, due to the fact that most of the schools and universities in Haiti are closed, because of roadblocks and violence, he arrives each morning at our motor pool and gets ready to wash the vehicles around 5:30 a.m. I saw him walking to the motor pool this morning while it was still dark. He is a sweet, quiet kid and kind of mysterious, but so sweet. He is also a good businessman. He buys cold drinks and resells them to our workers! He’s a sweet, lovable kid!! Sherry
