The Cycle Continues

The Cycle Continues

A few weeks ago, we talked about how Haiti has many successive planting seasons, more than the typical two planting seasons we have here in the U.S. Because of Haiti’s climate, they can plant and grow throughout much of the year, keeping the gardening cycle going year-round, as long as they have access to water and seeds.

Recently, Wilner was once again teaching the two-year students about turning their gardens and planting in succession to have continual harvests all year long.

In these pictures, you can see them preparing homemade planting soil to start new plants in pots before transplanting them into the gardens. They mix sifted soil with rich compost, biochar, and natural “fertilizer” made from aged chicken manure to create a rich new planting medium for the new plants.

Soon, there will be fresh vegetables for nutritious meals. The cycle continues.

We are grateful to Hope Seeds International, which provides us with valuable open-pollinated seeds specially selected for the growing conditions in Haiti. These special seeds, along with the Gospel message of Hope that accompanies them, are invaluable in food-insecure areas like rural Haiti. We could not carry out this important outreach to hungry stomachs and hungry souls without our partnership with Hope Seeds International.

Thank you to Hope Seeds and to our donors who support our Development for Sustainability programs that bring dignity, hope, and a better tomorrow for thousands of Haitian families.

Thank you for blessing others.
