The Prodigal Sons…

The Prodigal Sons…
This is Davidson and David. They are both 18 and will have one more year of school to finish. These boys are twins. Twins are common in Haiti. We have three sets of twins in our Children’s Home.

Both the mother and father of these boys died right after they were born. Due to the fact that they lived so far into the mountains, there was no one to care for them. Everyone was poor and certainly could not afford two more mouths to feed. They were sent to live with their grandma, but she was worse off than anyone! She had no milk to feed the babies, so she gave them “saltwater!”

On Christmas day, 18 years ago, Grandma Noel arrived with a baby in her arms, and right behind her came an old man with another baby! By the time they were brought to us, their throats were swollen and practically shut!! We had to feed them with an eyedropper! With love and care, they survived!!

The boys were like most boys but were very lazy and so, during the summer, I sent them “back home where they came from!!” It was a summer of “come to Jesus,” when they had to carry buckets of water from far, sleep on a dirt floor, and eat “whatever everyone else was eating” (which wasn’t much!) When they came back to us, they were changed for a while, but one of them got in trouble again!

Both boys are doing well now, getting up early, working hard, and trying “to stay out of trouble!” I really think the boys have learned their lesson! We want the best for them because God is the God “of the second chance!”
