Every day, many mothers come to our Love A Child Birthing Center. They receive wonderful care and medicine, safe childbirth with our competent staff, and the best midwives and doctors in any place around. They have beautiful recovery rooms, receive great food, and have Christian music playing outside by the rocking chairs!!
We had two deliveries yesterday… Each was different. For the first delivery, it was Mrs. Pierre Stephie who is 21 years old. During her pregnancy, she respected all the rules of the Birthing Center.
Madamn Stephie did not miss an appointment, took her vitamins and meds, and she had the best care she could possibly receive! She delivered a healthy baby, who weighed 3.6 pounds without difficulties. Mother and baby are doing quite well! All mothers must come at the “four months” point and continue to come each month. If they do not come each month, we do not want to take the responsibility of having “something happen” that we were not aware of, which could cost the life of the mother and the baby and put much stress on our midwives.
The case of Mrs. Alexi Mimose was very complicated. She came from a village far from her home. In this area, there is no hospital for pregnant women, and they often give birth at home or out on the street during their activities. This lady is 44 years old. The fact that she is 44 and having a baby, in itself, is dangerous in Haiti. She does all kinds of jobs to take care of her seven children, and when she does not go out to sell items in the street, she works in the garden under the scorching sun!
She had come to the Birthing Center so that we can help her, even if she didn’t keep any appointments. But we welcomed her, even though we had no information on her health or the health of the baby she was carrying. This kind of situation puts much stress on our midwives, who are always there all day and night, delivering babies. But, in this case, she said she did not come at four months, and in fact, she had never come. She told us that it’s the first time she’s going to give birth inside of a hospital!
She told us again, “every time she gave birth, her placenta struggled to come off; when the placenta didn’t come off, she was given a glass bottle to blow to help her push so the placenta could come out!” It was a “life or death method.”
During her delivery at the center, the difficulty of the placenta came up again, and the midwives had to use an artificial method: one of them used her hand to remove the placenta.
Mrs. Mimose gave birth to a healthy little girl weighing 2.3 kg (about five pounds). All Glory to God, because we have all the best midwives in Haiti working to save mothers’ and babies’ lives!
God bless each and every one of you who help sponsor the Birthing Center, monthly. Thank you, partners, for all the Birthing Kits, baby blankets and diapers you have been sending!!!
Today, we want to thank John Boldt, who is on our Love A Child Board of Directors, for the boxes of great birthing kits! They are being put to “good use!” Thanks to all our friends and partners. Nothing here happens without your help!!

P.S. Congratulations to John Boldt for his new bride!!
