How Can We Preach the Gospel in a Voodoo Village?

We first visited Despeezo years ago when we were going to do a Mobile Clinic. This village is not far from other villages where we work, Madamn Bauje, Cotin, etc. We noticed a large Voodoo house, (tonnel), with lots of drawings on it. There are Voodoo fetishes in the trees and other Voodoo items in the ground. There were also Voodoo crosses in the ground. But, there was also a big, beautiful tree in the middle. We never knew this was their special “Voodoo tree.” Bobby had decided to sit in a chair and lean up against the tree… and he fell asleep! When he woke up, the entire village was standing around him in a circle, staring at him. I think they could not figure out how he had “touched the tree,” and lived!

We began with the Mobile Clinic but after that, we also brought in food. This opened the door for us to preach to them. There is a small church there of believers, but there are still many in Voodoo. We may be the only outside “light” of the Gospel that penetrates this village with the power of the Holy Spirit. We plan to go back and preach the Gospel again. The Bible says that “the goodness of God leadeth men to repentance.” Romans 2:4

Sometimes, people don’t go to church for many reasons, but we have to “take the church” to them… and we do this through Mobile Clinics and Feeding Programs. Thank you, Partners!
