This Is Only The Beginning For Mackenson

It seems like yesterday that his father brought him from a long way to our Mobile Clinic, deep in the mountains of Covant, Haiti. Thinking he was just a couple of years old, I asked his father, “how old he was?” “Seven,” he replied. I was in shock. His skin was splitting open on his legs and feet from the kwashiorkor malnutrition. We knew it would be a long road to recovery. We brought him into our orphanage.

About three years ago, when he was doing good and making good grades in school, he had a “stroke!” It left him with a paralyzed leg and very minimum use of his hand. He had to have a lot of therapy. Sometimes, when he sees children playing, he looks so sad. Every boy in Haiti wants to play “soccer,” but he cannot. He cannot play basketball or run well…so he feels alone. We tell him, “This is not the end of your life. It’s the beginning! God has great plans for you.”

He is now 14 years old and in 8th grade. He is very sweet and timid but always trying to smile. His favorite thing to do…. “read the Bible.” We try to spend time with him and let him know that God has a special plan for his life and that we all love him. He wants to be a teacher!

We love Mackenson so much!
