We found her in a mud hut village where we were filming our Love A Child TV Program. While waiting to explain “where we were” and how we wanted to help this village, I was sitting on a little Haitian wooden chair, watching a grandma with her grandbaby. The little baby was thin, with tiny bunches of red, dry hair; the baby was very malnourished.
Grandma was not in good health either. In her frail hand was a few grains of rice. She put the baby on the dusty ground, put the few grains of rice in her hand, and went “somewhere.”
I watch as the baby picked up the rice with dirt clinging to it. The baby was already malnourished, and I knew she would not live long.
When Grandma came back, I asked if I could take her home. She smiled, yes, and handed me the baby.
The “baby” is now 15 and in 10th grade! She wants to study “computers!” She has many chores… ironing, cooking, cleaning the railings on the orphanage, etc. She loves to cook… because she loves to eat!
