Ti Samuel… Time for a Haircut!

Ti Samuel, “Little Samuel,” came to us from the Department of Social Services! They told us that his mother gave him up and his father couldn’t take of him. So, there we were, taking in another child! In grades one through six, here in Haiti, they want all the boys to have their heads “shaved!!” We did have a “hair trimmer,” but with all these boys getting their heads shaved, the hair clippers gave out!

This is Ednas, who works for us. He is “over the boys,” so he decided to give Samuel and the other boys a hair trim! All he had was a razor blade, which the Haitians call a “Gillette!” (They name things after “brand names!”)

When I came downstairs, I know Little Samuel was nervous, so I said, “just look at your brothers!! They are so handsome, and they had the same haircut!” He glanced over at Dorissaint, Jameson, and Ti David! They looked good, so Ednas proceeded with the “Gillette!” Things are so different here in Haiti! In the states, you would probably never do this, but, there are no barbershops or hair salons where we are, and there are gangs between us and barbershops or hairstylists… so, we must “degaje!” (Get ourselves out of a bad problem!)

Little Samuel is such a sweet child, extremely intelligent in school, and “low maintenance!” We love him and his little smile so much!
