The 15th chapter of the 1st Book Samuel is a sad story of a young man who had been anointed to be king; yet because of disobedience, he lost his throne… and his life. God had told King Saul to “go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass…”

But Saul disobeyed God. Instead of killing Agag, the king, Saul took him alive; instead of killing all the animals, they spared the fattest sheep, oxen, and lambs. When the prophet Samuel found out, he was so angry with Saul. Samuel said, “To obey is better than sacrifice and to ‘harken,’ ( listen and obey), than the fat of rams.” 1st Book Samuel 15:22

The Lord would rather that you obey Him in a small thing rather than give the biggest offering you have! Obedience “trumps” any sacrifice you can make.
