Tropical Storm Laura Update

All morning we have been hit with pounding rains and heavy winds coming from the Dominican Republic and into Haiti via “Laura,” a strong tropical storm. It will be covering the island of Hispaniola today. (Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the same island.) The most fragile people are those living in the garbage dumps in tent camps. The authorities have been asking people to evacuate tent camps, but there are little choices as to “where to go.” Flooding is expected, and with these heavy rains, we are also concerned about those who live in the little kay pays (mud houses).

We, at Love a Child, have lots of water and heavy winds, but we are fine so far. We are “riding out the storm!”
