Remember when we built a restaurant inside Gwo Maché Mirak (Grand Miracle Market)?
We built this as a “sustainability project.” For the last two years, it has sat dormant because the gangs controlled the roads. You could not pick up what was needed for the menu. Two weeks ago our two Haitian sons and myself went inside the restaurant. It was in shambles! Dieuferly almost cried. Without me saying anything, they got about 30 of their orphan brothers and sisters, brought them over and they all cleaned and scrubbed for about 8 hours!
The next day they opened the restaurant without any notice or advertising! They had a small limited menu, but it was an overwhelming success! They opened for one week as a test. It was full every night starting from the 1st day! You can see from the pictures… wow!
Haiti is in a crisis… the gangs have blocked off our area. I thought, “There’s no way for anyone to make money here!” Unbelievable! Our orphan boys made a good profit every night!!! Go figure, how can you make money where there is no money? Behind this restaurant are two smaller restaurants the Haitians have. Haitians are very creative and can make things work.
Thank you, Mark Ostrander, for all your hard work building the restaurant. Thank you, Pastor Jentezen Franklin, for the $1,000,000 you put into the market… plus, it has grown “way past that” now! Farmer John is also in the market with the best meat in Haiti!
Sustainability… helping Haitians to help themselves.
