Update on Dimelia

Update on Dimelia

Special thanks to our dear friends, Angie and David George! We have been trying to get Dimelia, one of our older Love A Child children, to a hospital for skin graph surgery and a release on her chest area. As many of you know, Dimelia was burned very badly at the age of three when she fell into a large pot of boiling water, when her mother was preparing food. We sent her to the Shriners Hospital in Boston for many trips back and forth for years. However, her “host mother” had kept her passport on her last trip and let her passport and visa expire (she has had six surgeries at Shriners). Because of this, she cannot return for her last “surgery” she desperately needs.

Our friends, Angie and David began to search for doctors in Cuba, who could do this release but she also needs laser, so Cuba was out. After a lot of work through David’s friends, R.L. and his wife, in the Dominican Republic, they located a doctor and hospital in La Romana who believe they can do this.

Due to our schedule, we could not go, but David and Angie offered to meet Dimelia there and accompany her to the hospital for a check-up and diagnosis. They have also talked to their friends, R.L. and his wife, who would be able to take care of Dimelia, should she be able to have this important surgery. This surgery is critical to Dimelia because she is growing and now, the skin on her chest is “expanding,” and cannot stretch anymore. She has been on pain medication. This surgery cannot be done in Haiti.

We want to thank David and Angie for all their work in getting a place to stay “before her exam,” and should she have the surgery, a place to stay with this young couple from the Dominican, R.L. and his wife. We do not know if the surgery will be possible in the D.R., and we do not know the cost of the surgery, but we will know in about a week. Philemond, our driver, will be leaving tomorrow, Sunday, and driving Dimelia to the D.R., to meet with David and Angie for her appointment.

Let’s all pray and believe God for the best for Dimelia! God has His hand on “her life!” Thank you, David and Angie, and your precious friends for making this happen! It brings tears to our eyes, Bobby and Sherry
