This saddens my heart greatly to share with you… As of Thursday, March 5th, the U.S. Embassy put out a travel advisory level four. “Do not travel to Haiti, due to crime, civil unrest, kidnapping, robbery, and carjacking.”
Kidnappings in the last two weeks have been overwhelming and have affected both the rich and poor.
The bottom line is “the gangs and thugs are in control.” The police are outgunned and outmanned. Some of the head police have been “bought off” to turn against the president. The opposition wants the president to resign. These people are behind all of this.
We are in a political, economic, and severe food crisis. If the Haitian gourde goes above 100 to the American dollar, as the International Development Fund has possibly predicted, the entire population will be on the brink!
It’s difficult moving our food containers out of Customs; fighting the gangs to get through and giving payoffs in certain cases. Our key people risk their lives every week. They are the heroes. I wish I could mention their names, but it would not be safe to do so. We are distributing food like we always have, and even added new areas in the middle of all of this!
Sherry and I have had our lives threatened by the gangs. We have been threatened by the kidnappers. We have no plans on leaving. We were supposed to leave for our board meeting today, but we decided to stay with our children, who are afraid.
We are going forward! We are here to share the gospel of Christ and defend the poor and fatherless.
All of these problems are not from the precious Haitian people that we work with every day. They are very sweet, docile, and loving. As so many of you know, the Haitian people, especially the children, will steal your heart… The Haitian people are very special.
Thank you for praying for Haiti, ourselves, and other missionaries here. Since we’ve had no official teams here for a year, due to the violence, our financial support has been hurt. Please remember us in your prayers and giving.
Your prayers will keep the enemy at bay!!
Love is something you do…
Bobby and Sherry
