Jackson Update

Update on Jackson – 10-11-18

This little boy was discovered during one of our Mobile Medical Clinics in the village of Savaan Pit, Haiti. His stomach was swollen as if he were “9-months pregnant.” His father begged me to take him from the village because he was so sick, and we did. For months, Jackson (Jasson in Creole) had to have water drained from his navel because of the fluid that built up because he suffered from severe Kwashiorkor Malnutrition. You may remember that Jackson has ongoing health issues. Here is an update from one of our medical professionals helping with his care. “Currently, Jackson is stable, and our goal is to give him a good quality of life and preserve his kidney function. (Leaking protein in the urine damages the kidneys.) Unfortunately, there may be no cure for his chronic kidney disease. Even in the U.S., his condition would be difficult to treat. Some treatments could be tried in the U.S. that are not available in Haiti, but also they may not be long-lasting. At this point, his kidneys are functioning very well. Our best hope for his future is to get him a good education so he can perhaps emigrate. At some point as an adult, he may need a kidney transplant.” We are fortunate to have caring medical professionals that assist with our children who are in need. Jackson loves being with his Love A Child family, and he enjoys playing with his brothers. Thank you, partners, for helping change Jackson’s life. God bless you. Bobby and Sherry
