We have several children here at the Love A Child Children’s Home who require a “lot” of care. One has HIV, one has kidney failure, one is crippled, one has sickle cell anemia, one has a really bad reoccurring skin condition, one is mentally handicapped, one, Dieuferly, is having club-feet surgeries, and another, Miliana, who has a rare skin disease called “Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV).” When we found her in a remote area, she was a child who looked as though “no one cared for her.” She also had “malnutrition.”
When we brought her to our orphanage, we realized that she had a horrible skin condition, which grew worse as she got older. On her hands, feet, and legs she has growths that look like “little tree trunks” growing out! We had sent her to the States to a great Dermatologist, but he could do little for her… But, we recently were made aware of a Dermatologist who said he could help her, and he would remove the growths and “they would not grow back!”
We had to renew Miliana’s Passport, and that took a little while because of all the problems here in Haiti. But now, THE EMBASSY HERE IS CLOSED! No one is getting appointments! This is so disheartening, because we also have a young man who needs a cancer operation, and we have a Hospital willing to pay for it, but the Embassy is closed!
I am going to write to our Congressmen to complain about this. I am so heartbroken, and yet so angry that our Embassy is closed even for children who need medical help in the States. But, I believe that now “prayer is the answer!” Please remember Miliana and Djonsly in your prayers! Sherry
