Nelson… From, “I Don’t Need You, to… I Love You, I Want You!”

Nelson is now 12 years old and in 5th grade! His goal in life is to be a mechanic! Although Love A Child has lots of needs for another mechanic, the real reason for young boys wanting to “be a mechanic,” is usually so that they can drive a vehicle! Hmmm.

Nelson is a sweet, young boy and works “very hard!” He is always up early, at 4:30 a.m., watering the garden, cleaning, and disinfecting things, picking up trash, and feeding the donkeys (names, Bobo, and DiDi). He looks great now, getting some little muscles and he is “solid” in his strength… and, he can do “cartwheels,” and is very “acrobatic!”

If we had not rescued him at a young age, he would have died. His parents are deeply involved in Voodoo. When Nelson was born, he could not walk, so his parents would sit him the in sun, on the ground. He usually sat on his knees bent backward and he would sit for hours, with no food or water. The kids in the village would make fun of him and call him “pa bezouin,” (I don’t need you). He had malnutrition when we got him from the village and was near death… But, when God moves in, hope moves in!! This little boy’s life is changed forever!!! Every child is a “work of art,” in God’s eyes. We love Nelson “very, very much.”
