Update on the Chicken School from Rad: 7-24-18 4:00 PM

An update from Rad on the Chicken School.

This week our Poul Mirak chicken co-operative is conducting its second “chicken school.” One of the initial objectives for the co-op was to provide a center for training poultry science, appropriate for the conditions in Haiti. Eight sponsored students have come from different areas of Haiti to study, work and live together for six days learning the basics of raising chickens, both for meat and for egg production. Some of what they will learn is how to maximize feed conversion for growing large broilers and how to maximize egg production from layers. Imagine the benefits for these eight students’ families and villages when they can return home and confidently manage a flock of chickens to have better protein in their diets. Such a small thing to us is yet, a huge thing for generations to come in Haiti. Some may even go on to manage flocks as a small business. When you help sponsor students to learn new skills for better sustainable living, you are giving them an opportunity for a better life and hope for a better future. A huge thank you to Mike Welch and the vision of the World Poultry Foundation for sponsoring the infrastructure of the co-op, which is now changing lives in Haiti. God bless those who help the poor.
