Haiti’s families are suffering more than ever before. By a miracle, we were able to get two containers out of Haitian Customs. One came yesterday afternoon and one late at night, due to the violence in the areas. These two containers are not even enough for all of our monthly village commitments.
In addition, there are so many villages with hungry little children starving for food. These “unreached” villages are the ones that are so fragile. We need to reach the ones where there are no regular feeding programs at all. Furthermore, there are many orphanages in Haiti who are either “low on food,” or don’t have any at all.
We have just learned that someone is willing to give a $10,000 “matching gift” for food. That means if we raise $10,000, they will give another $10,000.
Since we cannot count on when the other containers will be released, we must act quickly. We have already started checking the prices of buying food in the Dominican Republic. We are just seven miles from the border. We have contacts there that will help us buy large quantities of rice, beans, and cooking oil. These are the three staples of the Haitian diet when they have food to eat. We would like to start buying food in the Dominican Republic by the middle of next week. A sack of rice in the Dominican Republic is $20; the same in Haiti is $50 or more!
If you feel that God has placed this upon your heart, it is urgent that you call our Love A Child office and ask to speak with Rad at 239-210-6107. You may give online or mail your gift in as well. Your gift amount, large or small or widow’s mite, will help us buy additional food. We believe in God for a miracle of $10,000, and that way the donor who wishes to remain “unknown” will send in another $10,000 for food.
In all of the 28 years that we have been living here in Haiti, Sherry and I haven’t seen it this bad… No, not even during the embargo. This time we all face extreme violence nearly every day. We must always be cautious and check to see where the trouble is, where the roadblocks are, and if the “papaya bandits” are on the street. (If you really want to check out the problems in Haiti, please Google “violence in Haiti” and you will see pictures and hear stories that are not being reported in the news.)
Thank you in advance. When we get this food and begin to distribute it, we will post pictures for you to see.
God bless you and thank you on behalf of the Haitian children. We love you. Bobby and Sherry
