Of all the boys, Wilguens is the one you could say is “most different.” He is very quiet, and you could almost forget he is at the Children’s Home. He never gets into trouble (that I know of!!) But he is hard to find.
He is the brother of lovely little Fabiola. When his mother died, their stepmother did not want to take care of Wilguens and Fabiola. Many times, they were left alone and hungry. Many times, they did not know when their father would come back. Little is known about their stepmother, but it is obvious she did not want them. (This is the case many times when a man’s wife dies, and he takes a new wife and has children of his own. Many times, the stepmother will mistreat those children.) There were times when Wilguens’ father left the children by themselves when he went out to work, and they were very, very hungry. The children were malnourished, and he could no longer care for them, so he “gave them up” to Social Services. They brought the children to us, and hence, Wilguens and Fabiola are here.
Wilguens works hard when he is told, but he loves the church, and he loves to sing and dance (the kids say, “like King David in the Bible!”) Wilguens wants to be a mechanic, “at the moment.” He is very intelligent in school, so his career may change. We love Wilguens…he is “different,” but we love him just as much!
