“The Ninety-Nine or The One?”
In Luke 15, Jesus is answering the “Scribes and Pharisees” about “why” he ministered to the sinners. The Publicans and Pharisees were “holy” people and “how dare Jesus” give the sinners more attention. Jesus told the story of the shepherd who had 100 sheep, and if one got lost, he would “leave the ninety-nine” in the wilderness to search for the one that was lost. Being “lost” is an emotionally sad thing, and yet the people who need the Lord the most, don’t realize they are lost. What do you think church folk would say, if you missed your Sunday Service, or were not there to teach Sunday school, and instead, they found you in front of a liquor store telling someone about Jesus? When someone is “lost” and they know they are “lost,” they are looking for someone like you “to find them” and bring them to the Savior. Jesus is saying that the “one” is always more important than the ninety-nine who are sitting on the church pews. So, each morning, keep your eyes and your heart open for that one “lost sheep that needs to be found.” Sherry
