“Jehovah-Jireh”
As I was reading my Bible this morning about the faith of Abraham and how he was going to sacrifice his “only son” in obedience to God, I realized that Abraham had perfect confidence in God. After all, Abraham had sent his wife’s handmaiden, Hagar away with his first son, Ismael, years ago, and now this was the son of “the promise,” Isaac.
How could Isaac die, and yet, he would be the father of so many as the stars in the Heaven, and as the dust that covers the earth. “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.” Genesis 22:18 – Then, God comes down and tells Abraham that this was a test of obedience, and they find a ram in the bush to offer for sacrifice.
Then, Abraham and his son went on to the town of Beersheba, and Abraham finds out that his brother, Nahor, whom he hasn’t seen in years has a large family. He had eight sons and one of his sons, Bethuel, had a girl named Rebekah. Little did Abraham know that God already provided a wife for his son, Isaac, for in the future Isaac would marry Rebekah!
