Forgiveness and Being Forgiven – Matthew 18:23-35
Jesus teaches us a story in Matthew 18 about two servants who owed money. The first servant owed the King a LOT of money, ten thousand talents to be exact. The Bible scholars say this amount would be equal to “millions of dollars” today. The King was going to sell the servant, his wife and children and all that he had to pay the debt, but the servant begged for forgiveness and the King forgave him. Now, the forgiven servant had a friend, also a servant, who owed him 100 pence. (Some say it is around $44 dollars.) The wicked, but forgiven servant demanded his friend pay him and when the poor man could not, he cast him into prison. Someone told the King, who delivered him to the “tormentors” until he could pay all that was owed. Sometimes, it is hard for us to forgive a “small sin” someone commits against us…a “$44 dollar sin.” But Jesus has forgiven our “million dollar sins” on Calvary and He still does this constantly. We must “learn to forgive,” and “let it go” before it becomes a weight that gets heavier each day. Remember that Jesus has forgiven us for the debt we owe. Sherry
