“Forgive and Forget…”
In Matthew 18:22, Peter asked Jesus a question about “how many times should he forgive his brother,” and he thought of a good number Jesus would be pleased with… “until seven times?” Then Jesus told the story of a man who owed a debt to a king. The man owed what would have been millions in silver. He begged and begged and cried and actually, the king forgave him of this debt. This same man had a poor servant who owed him a debt of what would have been less than $50 in silver. Instead of forgiving the poor man’s debt, he threw him into prison. When the people heard this, they told the king who was extremely angry, and he “delivered him to the tormentors” who made him pay all that was due. Sometimes, we have a hard time forgiving someone when they have hurt us, or told lies about us, or stolen from us. We have a right to feel angry or hurt, but we have no right “not to forgive.” Jesus has already forgiven us of a greater debt that we could not pay. And, we must also learn to forgive and forget about it, and keep on going. Jesus not only forgives, but He forgets our debt! God bless you. Sherry
