“For there is no restraint to the Lord to save by many or by few.” 1 Samuel 14:6
In 1 Samuel 14, Saul and the army of God are facing the Philistines, again. At this time, there had been no “iron workers” in Israel. The Israelites had no weapons, no swords or spears. They only had their sickles, plow tools and hoes. The only ones who had a spear and a sword were Saul and his son, Jonathan. King Saul was hiding under a pomegranate tree with six hundred men. His son, Jonathan, who had the “other spear and sword” took his armor-bearer and snuck over to see the garrison of the Philistines. Even though Jonathan and his armor-bearer were outnumbered, faith arose in Jonathan’s heart. He told his armor-bearer, “It may be that the Lord will work for us; for there is no restraint to the Lord to save by many or by few.” (1 Samuel 14:6) Jonathan and his armor-bearer went in “crawling on their hands and knees,” and they began to kill the enemy. Then, the Lord sent his angels in, and the enemy began killing one another! The battle was won that day! You see, God doesn’t have to depend on numbers to get the job done! He just needs a few that are full of faith! Sherry
