“Look at Me…”
Peter and John were going up to the temple about 3:00 in the afternoon. The Bible tells us that a certain man, who was lame from birth, was carried and laid daily at the gate of the temple, which is called Beautiful. Now, the gate Beautiful was truly magnificent. It was about 65 feet wide and 75 feet tall and it had massive carvings on it. Here, the crippled man was laid every single day of his life in front of the gate Beautiful, so he could ask for “alms” (money given to the poor). He sees Peter and John and, the Bible says he “was expecting to receive something of them.” He was expecting to receive money, or “something” from them.
But, Peter and John had no money. They told the man, “Look on us,” or “look us straight in the eyes. We want to tell you something…” Then Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have, I give thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And, Peter (the same Peter who jumped out of the boat during a storm and walked on water to Jesus) took him (the crippled man) by the right hand, and lifted him up; and immediately, his feet and ankle bones received strength.” Acts 3:6-7 – Those emaciated legs, those crippled bones, those muscles he had never used, suddenly became full of the power of God! He ran walking, leaping and praising God, all the way into the temple!
Today, this is a sick world we live in. All around us are hurting people… people on drugs, people who have gotten a divorce, or lost a loved one, or lost their job or their house or lost their way in the world and are on the edge of suicide. You will never know it, but people you come in contact with are in need of “what you have.” Are you ready to say, “Look at us,” or “Look at me!” I have something to give you! His name is Jesus! I can’t pay your mortgage payment, but I know someone who can! As you go today, be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and be used by God! May the Lord bless you. Sherry
