“I will now turn aside…”
“And behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.”
Exodus 3:2-3 – Moses had left the palace of Pharaoh years ago. He had seen how the Egyptians were killing, beating and mistreating the Israelites and upon defending one, Moses killed an Egyptian. He left Egypt, and went to the land of Midian, meeting up with some women who had been tending flocks. Moses helped the women, and defended them from shepherds who were causing trouble. He meets Zipporah, daughter of Jethro, and marries her. He is now on the “backside of the desert,” tending sheep for his father-in-law, a long ways down from living in the palace in Egypt. But, he sees a bush burning, but not consumed. He goes out of his way, and he turns aside to see the bush. Little did he know that “God was in the bush!” He hears the voice of the God he never knew calling him to lead His children out of Egyptian bondage. In our busy lives, God always does things to get our attention. If we walk close to the Lord, and are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, God will use something to make us stop and turn aside to listen to Him. God can use a bush, or He can use a tragedy. He is God. He can use anything that will “get our attention.” Today, as you go about your day, listen to Him, and always be looking for that “burning bush.” Sherry
