“One last peek…”
Some people just have to have it. “I’ll just smoke one more cigarette, and that will be my last… I’ll just have one more piece of chocolate cake, and then I’ll go on a diet… I’ll just work two more years, so I can pay off my car, and then I’ll obey the Lord.”
Bobby tried to go on a long fast (21 days on water only) when I was dating him. He was 18 and I was 17. We were both in high school, but Bobby’s calling from God was so strong that he spent most of his high school days “in the orange groves” fasting and praying. God had told him to go on a long fast, and he always told me it would be between 17-21 days on water only.
He fasted for years, trying to obey God. Some days, he would fast for four or five days and then go back to fasting again. We had no money to rent a place or a motel room for Bobby to fast, but someone lent him a little shack. It had rats in it and there was no heat. We were flat broke and didn’t have a dime; no way of making an income. During this fast, he could have changed his mind and taken a job that would have made some money, but he really felt that this time “he could not look back, not even one time.” He did go on that 21-day fast, and because he did, God taught us one thing… “The just shall walk by faith and not by sight.”
When God calls you to do something, the devil will “dangle that apple” right in front of your face; one last bite, one last look. He has called you to do something, but you keep giving God excuses… “God, just let me finish this and I will obey you.” You are just like “Lot’s wife.” You just have to have “one last peek.” God is saying, “leave it or leave him or leave that job or leave whatever else it is,” but you just have to have “one last peek.” So, if you cannot obey God in something small, you will never be able to obey Him in something big.
It’s like leaving the California forest fires. God tells you to get in the car and drive for your life and “do not look back…”
The Bible says, “…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
So, keep your eyes on the prize and don’t look back… Don’t even take “one last peek!” This will be a great day! Sherry
