“To obey is better than sacrifice…”
Imagine if you were living in the time of the Book of Exodus… and you were a man, called “Moses.”
The “Help Wanted” might read like this…
Wanted: Team Leader – Please come in for an interview.
In walks an elderly man and the man behind the desk says, “I’m looking for a leader. How old are you?”
Moses: “I’m 80 and my brother, Aaron, is 83.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Have you any experience?”
Moses: “Well, I grew up in Egypt.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Well, tell me your credentials.”
Moses: “Well, I have been keeping my father-in-law’s sheep for many years. But before that, I grew up in Pharoah’s palace.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Okay, so you’re 80, and you have never led a team?”
Moses: “Correct.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Have you ever been in trouble?”
Moses: “Well, I killed an Egyptian because he was going to kill a slave.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Okay, well how good are you at communication?”
Moses: “Well, not so good. I stutter when I talk, and I am timid.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Okay, so you are 80 years old, with no experience. You have only been keeping sheep and you are timid, but you killed a man, so you are ‘wanted’ and running from Pharaoh. And you don’t do a lot of talking. Correct?”
Moses: “Correct.”
Man Behind the Desk: “Okay, you are hired! I need you to go to Egypt and tell Pharaoh to free the 1,000,000 slaves he has had for many years. You are to tell them to take only what they have on their body, their only pair of sandals, and leave by foot. I will provide water, manna from Heaven, and take care of everything else.”
Moses: “What did you say your name was?”
Man Behind the Desk: “I am that I am!”
When God calls someone, He doesn’t call the “equipped.” He “equips those that He calls.”
“To obey is better than sacrifice…” (1 Samuel 15:22)
Have a great day and be listening for the Lord to lead you and guide you!
