Word from the Mission Field

“The Long Way Around…”

I love the Book of Exodus. Full of stories of how God rescued His people from slavery in Egypt. A long 400 years had gone by, and after Moses pleading with Pharaoh “to let my people go,” God’s children saw many miracles that God had done. Now, it was time to “get out of Dodge!” There have been so many times in our missionary adventures, that we have seen God take us the long way around, when we thought there should have been “shortcuts!”

“And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although it was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent (turn around and run) when they see war, and they return to Egypt. But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea…” (Exodus 13:17-18)

Have you ever wondered why the Lord took you “the long way around?” Maybe you had a “shortcut” in mind? Maybe He didn’t want you to buy “that particular house and it fell through,” or maybe that “good-looking man” should have you but now he belongs to someone else. Why did someone else get that job and you didn’t? Why did it take you longer to do a “thing,” and someone else did it faster?

When we are “led by the Spirit,” we must follow Him blindly. Our eyes see one thing, but God looks at things as “they will be.” So, don’t fret because “it took you longer,” or “you didn’t get what you wanted.” Even though God takes you “the long way around,” He is doing what is best for you, and He knows “the blessings are coming!”

P.S. This is especially for someone who has been wrestling with this. Don’t give it any more thought! God has got this! So, have a great day anyway!
