“A Table Before Me In The Presence Of Mine Enemies…” Psalm 23:5 (Part Two)
You have read the devotional from yesterday where our lives were endangered while distributing food. We have traveled into bad areas, like the Haitian garbage dump, and there are always “thugs” there, watching us. This one particular time, we were in Fond Parisien, not far from our Love A Child Village. You would think that no one would get angry with us, even if we put the food into “yellow sacks” instead of boxes, but these violent thugs hated the change.
Just about the time we were going to distribute the food, the thugs surrounded our vehicles, and one jumped on the hood with a large rock! We managed to “gas it,” and get back to Love A Child by a miracle. That night, the incident troubled us. How could we continue to feed the poor, and yet face the thugs each time? The Lord said, “Invite the ten meanest guys to Love A Child, and let them come and sit down inside your Mobile Medical Clinic room, and let Samson inside.” (Samson is my Rottweiler!)
They filed in the door with Samson right behind them. When they sat down, I said, “Whatever you do, don’t raise your voice to me at all. Samson hates that! He will think you are trying to hurt me, and he will go right for your throat!” You would have thought we were in a Kindergarten class. With Samson walking in and out of their legs under the table, they were perfect gentlemen!
As we talked to them, we began to feel sorry for them. They had rage, simply because they had no jobs! They always thought the white people didn’t care, etc. As we talked to them, we said, “OK, suppose you work for us, and become our Security in this area, and help us with the food distributions, and we’ll pay you!” They were all happy and agreed! The next morning, we got a call to go to our Security gate. They were all there with their “hand made tee shirts” that said, “Love A Child Security!” God had prepared a table before us, in the presence of our enemies, and God can do the same for you!
