Word from the Mission Field

“I Want it God and I Want it Now!”

Aren’t we spoiled!! Everything today is instant, Facebook, messaging, etc. We don’t even have to go “look for a car,” we can buy it online. That works, when it comes to “things” but, when it comes to God, “His time is not our time” and “our time is not His time.” My two favorite books of the Bible are 1st and 2nd Samuel and 1st and 2nd Kings. What great stories that have life lessons.

In 1 Samuel 13, we read the story of the Philistines coming against the people of Israel. But “God’s people were so scared, that they ran and hid in caves, in thickets” and anywhere they could! Saul had just been anointed “King,” so this was a test. What kind of leader would he make?

The Prophet Samuel had told him that he would come in seven days to make a sacrifice so that God would fight for the Israelites. But when the seven days were spent, Samuel had not come. Instead of praying, or “waiting on God,” King Saul decided to “do it now, himself!” He didn’t need to “wait on God.” God came late, so, Saul decided to take matters into his own hands. That decision “cost him his kingdom,” Samuel said, “Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord by God, which He commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel forever.” 1 Samuel 13:13

The Word teaches us “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
