“How many times should you knock?”

Years ago, when Bobby and I were doing a lot of evangelistic work, there was a doctrine that circulated about “praying for something one time,” and “then it would be done.” I never could understand that message. Even though I didn’t want to “bother God,” I just could not let go of a prayer until He answered.

I found the story in Luke 18:2-8 that talks about a widow knocking on the door of the “unjust judge” so that he could settle a problem with her adversary, and he was the “only hope she had!” The Bible says that “even though this judge did not fear God or man” he was going to get up and take care of the problem because the widow wouldn’t give up! She literally “wore him down with her faith!” We live in a children’s home with 85 kids. There have been times when we have tried in vain to “ignore those knocks on the door” hoping they would go away! But, if the kids know you are there, and they need something, they will “knock until you open the door!” “How many times should you knock?” “Until the answer comes and then it’s time to praise Him!” Have a great day, and keep on knocking!
