“Where Is Your Treasure?”
It’s amazing how we have changed from a nation who “really cares about their neighbor,” to a nation “who really cares about things.” It’s not a sin to have nice things, if we don’t forget the poor. Since I have moved to Haiti, it has changed my “heart.” I detest buying new clothes when I go to the States. I get very depressed. Most anything nice that I have, someone has given me as a gift. After seeing children eat “dirt cookies” to fill their stomachs, or children who have to drink “boiled salt water” to fill their stomachs, it has changed me. Here, children are not thinking about Christmas gifts or a hamburger and fries. They are thinking, “How can I make the pain of hunger go away?” Jesus said, “Sell that ye have, and give alms (alms is giving to the poor); provide yourselves bags which wax not old…”  “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12:33-34 – Let’s put our treasures and our hearts in a safe place. Let’s invest in caring for the poor. No one can ever steal this treasure from us. Sherry
