“I’ve Come too Far to Look Back…”
I often wonder why anyone would “look back” after becoming a Christian and after all that the Lord has done for us… Abram and Lot (Abram’s spoiled nephew), had been blessed so much that they could no longer live together. They “had too many cattle,” and “too much of everything.” Graciously, Abram gave Lot first choice of the land. Lot, of course, chose the greenest land, the land overlooking Sodom… Abram was left with Canaan.
But with God, things are not always “as they seem.” Several kings came together to fight and they took the land of Sodom. “And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods (and all the women, including Lot’s wife), and departed.” (Genesis 14:12) The next thing we see is that Abram went to rescue his nephew, Lot, and brought him with all his goods, etc. What a miracle!!!
Now, a short time later, God was getting ready to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, and he sent two angels to Lot to warn him to get his family together and “get out of Dodge!” But the angel warned them “not to look back!”
Sometimes, in our lives, we tend to “look back” on the things that don’t really matter when the Lord wants us to keep our eyes “straight ahead!“ You guessed it! Lot‘s wife just had to turn around and look back at “what she was leaving behind,” instead of praising God for delivering them all from burning alive in these two cities!! She should have been singing a song I heard Nancy Harmon sing… “I‘ve Come Too Far to Look Back!“ Keep your eyes on the prize! Sherry
