Word from the Mission Field

A Good Name and Loving Favor…

When Bobby and I moved to Haiti more than 30 years ago, we had a hard time. We were very poor, we had a pickup truck that was always breaking down and costing us a lot of money. But, we did our best. We had a wonderful Haitian mechanic named “Nelio.” He was a student of the first school we had built in Haiti, in Lartibonite, a poor village. Nelio was poor and so were we. We could not afford to pay him much… But as we worked with him day by day, we saw “great qualities in him.” He was kind and he was honest. We taught Nelio that “the most valuable thing you have in the world, Nelio, is not money… it’s your name. You must protect your name at all times because bad people will be jealous of you and try to make you do things that are wrong.”

That was over 30 years ago. Today, Nelio is our Haitian Director, working directly under us. He is in charge of getting all the licenses for our clinics and schools, paying a large staff, getting our containers out of Customs, and much more! And, “everyone that knows Nelio,” respects him. He does not lie and he does not steal. He has a “good name.”

The second thing about Nelio is that he obtains “great favor” with everyone… people in “high places and low places… good people and bad people.” He has great favor! King Solomon said, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favor rather than silver and gold!” Proverbs 22:1

If you have wisdom and a good name, you are a very wealthy person and many blessings will come your way! Have a great day!
