Word from the Mission Field

Word from the Mission Field

What’s a sacrifice?

We hear this word often, especially in church or when giving to a special project. A “sacrificial offering,” is an offering that has “cost you something.”

In II Samuel, a story is told of King David and the sin he committed when he “numbered his people of Israel and Judah.” He was never supposed to do this unless God told him to… but he did. After this, the Lord punished David and all the people for this sin. David repented and he was told to go and offer a sacrifice to the Lord and repent his sin. David went to buy the threshing floor from a man called, “A-rau-nah.” But this man did not want the king to buy it. He wanted to “give it to King David.”

David said, “I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which cost me nothing.” II Samuel 24:24

A “sacrifice” will always “cost you something.”
