Afraid of change?
I really felt like giving this scripture this morning, because someone is getting ready to make a move and is “afraid of change.” But God is speaking to you and saying, “Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid of change…”
“Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee.” (Genesis 12:1) We cannot imagine what it must have been like for Abram to hear the voice of a God he never knew. He had no television, iPod, or Bible. He had no church home and no Christian friends. And in those Bible days, they “never left their family.” Their father was the law of the land and of the household. No one ever disobeyed or left his household. No one. No one, but Abram…
And yet, a voice Abram had never heard… “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house…” A change was about to come into Abram’s life. He would no more be Abram but Abraham, the father of nations! To a normal person or to his wife, it must have been so frightening to just “leave.” Sometimes, when God speaks to us, we are “afraid of change.” I remember the first time we came to Haiti to live. We couldn’t speak the language. Didn’t know the customs. Didn’t have any friends in Haiti and didn’t have any support. We were leaving our family and friends and going off into a country we knew little about. All because we heard that same voice that Abram heard…
Sometimes, God wants us to make a change in our life that will be for the good of many people. It may not be what you thought it would be and maybe you are “afraid of change,” but go ahead and “step into the water.” If you feel in your heart that this is what the Lord is leading you to do, just do it. If you make a mistake, God can always get you back on track. Don’t be “afraid of change.” Have a wonderful day!
