Word from the Mission Field

“Don’t Stay in the Pigpen!”

All of us make mistakes. We are human. All of us fail the Lord. I know I have, more than you. But the good thing is that “He is right there to pick us up again…”

We began our ministry on the streets, preaching to African Americans in a poor project not far from us. Bobby and I were “so poor” that we felt we were “poorer” than anyone we knew. We had a wonderful friend in the Lord, Sister Brown. She was a saint! She backed us up and prayed for us. And she could really “preach the Gospel!” We looked up to her for wisdom and guidance. But one day, someone told us that she had a drinking problem. She had gotten drunk, was “very sick,” and in the hospital. Maybe her drinking problem exasperated her medical condition, but we wanted to pray for her. We did not go the hospital to condemn her at all, because we all “fall down” and need someone to pick us up. When we walked into the room, she turned her face away from us and began to cry. Bobby loved her so much. He said, “Sister Brown, we all fail God, but don’t stay in the ‘pigpen!’ Get up out of that bed, repent, and keep on going for Jesus!!! And tell that devil where to go!” That was the talk she needed…

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.” (Psalm 37:23-24)
