“Give Me Something Hard to Do.”
This is what God loves… He loves to do, what you cannot do! Sometimes, we pray for things that “we can do.” But, God wants to do something “hard to do.”
In 1st Kings, 18th Chapter, the story is told of Elijah, the Prophet of God, and his “contest” with the people who worshiped the idol, Baal. Elijah invited the 450 “Baal prophets,” to a test… Who is the “real God?”
You know the story… The idol worshipers were to take a bullock, cut it up, and put it on the altar. The “god,” who answered by fire, would be God. All day long, the prophets of Baal, did their idol dance and begged and pleaded for Baal to “set fire to the altar.” They even began to cut themselves with knives… nothing happened and the Prophet Elijah began to make fun of them… “maybe your god has gone on a long journey!” Ha!
When it came to Elijah’s turn, he commanded his people to “fill 8 barrels of water,” and dig a trench and fill it with water… because he gave God something “hard to do!” God could have easily set fire to that altar, but He had commanded Elijah to “give Him something to do.” They were commanded to do this, not just once, but 3 times!! God wanted something “hard to do!” All of a sudden, fire fell from Heaven and burned up the sacrifices, the wood, the stones, everything! Then, the people took the 400 prophets of Baal, and killed them!!!
Today, God doesn’t want to do the small things for you! “Give Him Something Hard to Do!” He loves to do the IMPOSSIBLE! Trust Him!
