“Who Really is Your Neighbor?”
What a great story the Master told to the lawyer, who tried to tempt Jesus. He asked, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied, “What is written in the Law?” The lawyer replied, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and thy ‘neighbor’ as thy self.”
But because the lawyer wanted to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus told him the story about the man who had been robbed and beaten going down to Jericho… the priest, the Levite, passed by the man, leaving him for dead. But the Samaritan (a race of people despised by the Jews), took care of the man, saved his life, and did what the “religious people,” should have done, and saved his life. To answer the lawyer, “Your neighbor is anyone in need of your help, whether he be next door, or in the next town, or even further… your neighbor is the one “who is in need.” Have a great day and keep your eyes and your heart open “to help your neighbor.”
