Word from the Mission Field

“Do what you can do and let God do the rest…”

In 1st Kings, Chapter 17, there is a story we are all familiar with… Elijah and the poor widow woman. Elijah has been at the brook Cherith due to famine. He has been getting water from the brook and the Lord provided ravens to come and bring food to him every day. But we all know the brook will dry up sometime in our life and the ravens will stop bringing food. Then, God provides another “door” to walk through.

This time, God does not send the prophet to a rich woman. In fact, he sends Elijah to a poor woman, who was on the verge of starvation! She and her son were at the point of death. In fact, she was about to “bake her last cake” so that she and her small son could eat it and then die of starvation. When Elijah, the prophet, comes to her door, he is “not bringing her anything!” In fact, he does such a bold thing and asks her to “bake him a cake.” Normally, you or I would have said, “You are asking me to bake a cake for you? Didn’t I just tell you that we are going to die?” But, instead, this precious woman bakes her last cake and gives it to Elijah. He eats it, and then he tells her what to do… Go find empty pots and bring all she can find. She does this! And God makes “the oil begin to flow!” She is told to sell the oil and take care of her and her son.

Instead of complaining and expecting God to do everything, she did all she could do and “she let God do the rest.” Today, if you have been praying and believing in God for that special thing, “do all you can do.” Then, let God do the rest!!! He loves to work miracles!!!
