Word from the Mission Field

“God May Send You on a Detour.”

Sometimes, when the Lord speaks to us to somewhere or do something, don’t be surprised if you run into a “detour.” In Genesis, chapter 12, Abram has left his own country and is on a long journey with all his relatives to a strange new land. “And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was grievous.” Genesis 12:10

You probably read “the rest of the story,” about how Abram enters Egypt with his family and his “drop-dead good-looking wife,” Sarai. Abram knows they will keep her alive and might kill him so he passes her off as his sister.

The Pharaoh is beside himself and wants Sarai for his wife. He took “very good care” of Abram because of Sarai and gave Abram sheep, oxen, menservants, maidservants, asses and camels! The Bible says, “Abram was very rich in cattle, silver, and gold.”

Of course, we know that God must have told Pharaoh, “Don’t even think about it!” She’s a married woman!!! Pharaoh tells Abram to leave so that the curse will be lifted. Abram leaves with his relatives, all the gold, silver, cattle, and of course, his “beautiful wife!” Look what that detour did! Sometimes, God has a better plan for us on our journey. So, when you run into a “detour,” just consider that God has something to do with it, and start praising Him ahead of time!
