Word from the Mission Field

I know I have shared this thought with you before, but it so important that we understand that “God always has a better plan.” I was reminded of this when I shared a story with Jessica, one of our missionaries. It went like this… Years ago, when we first moved into our new orphanage (Children’s Home), I had a situation come up which scared me half to death! One of the toddlers stuck her head through our iron gate railing on the bottom floor! Everyone was “pulling” on her, and of course, all the Haitian workers were worried. They had tried everything!!

I saw this little toddler on her knees with her head stuck through the railing, and I was in panic mode. We tried to pull her through, but her head was too big! I couldn’t even imagine how she got her head in there in the first place! I thought, “maybe if I cut off all of her braids that her head would slide through.” I called for some scissors. I began to cut off all of her hair, all her braids! We tried again! Her head still didn’t go through. I said, “bring me some Vaseline!” I greased her little head down with so much Vaseline that she could have slid all the way to China, but her head would not go through.

I called Reggie, one of our workers, in a panic and said, “BRING ME THE BLOW TORCH!” As Reggie was “trying to find a blow torch,” Gilbert, one of our workers, came on the scene. (If any of you know Gilbert, he never moves fast. He moves like a turtle, hyper-gliding with each step, but he is so “methodic.” He never, never panics. He is never in a hurry. He is the calmest person I have ever seen.) He came over, picked up the little girl’s legs and body and turned her sideways and shoved her all the way through the iron gate! I never even realized her chest would compress enough to get through.

She came out the other side and ended up in the arms of a worker, who rushed her upstairs to get the Vaseline washed off! Gilbert slowly turned and went back upstairs, as quietly as he came down. In all my thinking, “Gilbert had a better plan.” That’s how life is with the Lord. He always has a “better plan.”

“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.” Psalm 18:30

So, no matter what your problem is, don’t get the “blow torch out.” God has a better plan! Sherry
