“What Does Your Soul Thirst After?”
You can never, never understand “real thirst” until you are “thirsty and don’t have any water.” Those of you who have been through hurricanes or other natural disasters can understand that when the drinking water runs out, it is frightening. Once, when I made a trip to the mountains of Haiti, Bobby wasn’t with me… I only had a driver who “parked the truck at the top of the mountain,” and would wait for me until I came back. I was going to take some medicine to a devout and elderly Christian gentleman. I had no problem following the Haitian Pastor to the hut, but when we finished, I heard him say, “We’re going to take a short cut!”

That guy was out of my sight so fast. Instead of going the long and safe way around, he “went straight up the side of the mountain.” I started to follow him, and as I did, the mountain was so steep, I could no longer “walk” up it! I had to get down on my hands and knees and crawl up. I had to grab at dry blades of grass, twigs, anything to keep from falling. It was noon, and the sun was hot! I had not had any water since early that morning. I almost died on that mountain. I was so, so thirsty! When I finally made it to the top, my truck and driver were a short distance from me. (Of course, the pastor was not there.) My whole body was shaking. When I finally got water, I realized what it meant to “thirst after the Lord.” David said, “Oh, God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” Psalm 63:1 – Each day, we must “thirst” for Jesus. Nothing else can satisfy us. Have a good day… drinking up Jesus! Sherry
