“Surrounded by a Cloud of Witnesses…” Hebrews 12:1
I have a little story to tell you. It happened to me recently… Even as I sit here writing this “Personal Letter,” I feel the Holy Spirit so near… (You may know what I’m talking about.)
We had recently flown to the States to take care of some business, and now, we were headed back to Haiti, where we are now. We were leaving from a smaller airport in Gainsville, Florida. Since we were traveling, I wore a business suit (not my Haiti scrubs). As Bobby and I were sitting near the gate waiting on our plane, we were really hungry.
I thought I would go and get us a snack at the little “snack bar.” But what I haven’t told you yet was that as I was sitting with Bobby, I felt the strong, powerful Holy Spirit. I even felt tears coming into my eyes. I kept hearing these words, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee…”
As I walked to the Snack Bar halfway, a woman about thirty-five years old held out her hand and stopped me. She had been “watching us.”
She asked me how long we were married, and I smiled and said, “A long time.” I knelt down on the floor beside her chair because her pain was so great. She told me that her husband was beating her.
So I quickly said, “Leave him, now! You cannot change him. Only God can!”
Jesus said. “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee!”
I gave her a hug and put her in God’s hands. Right there, in the Airport, Jesus was saying to her, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee!” I don’t even know if she was a Christian, but she accepted everything I told her, especially the part about Jesus saying, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”
Here we are in Haiti, looking into the faces of hungry children in each Feeding Program. Are we worried about gangs when we are feeding starving children? No, we are surrounded by Angels. Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us.
Just like the Lord chose to use me on my knees in the airport, God has chosen “you” to feed hungry, starving children here in Haiti.
We are all “surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.”
We love you very much!
Thank you for your prayers,
Sherry
