“Always leave something for the poor…”
“And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:9-10
Some people are so stingy with what God has blessed them with that they cannot give “anything to the poor.” We are living here in the country of Haiti, and we see the great contrast between the rich and the poor. The “very, very rich families here” do nothing to help the poor. They drive right by them every day and act like they do not exist. Their children are taught from the time they are small that “those people do not even exist.” They don’t want to see them.
We had an “acquaintance” who called himself a pastor. Whenever he came to Haiti, he would say, “I’ll have a Pastors Seminar, but I don’t want to see anyone poor.” One day, Bobby was talking to him from Haiti via phone, and the man asked Bobby, “Where is Sherry?” Bobby replied, “She’s gone to the mountains to a poor village… She had to ride a mule to get there.” The Pastor replied, “My wife is blessed! She’s driving a Mercedes Benz. If you and your wife were blessed, she wouldn’t be going by a mule! She’d be driving a Mercedes like my wife.” How foolish can people be?! This man didn’t realize, that although we didn’t have much money, we were far “wealthier than he was!” We were right in the middle of Psalm 41:1-3… “Blessed is he that considereth the poor…”
Today, let your eyes and ears be open to the cry of the poor, and God will bless you abundantly! Sherry
